camping

The baby had it's first (kind of) camping trip this weekend. It was a bit interesting with the "3" of us and two dogs stuffed into a two person tent. I've never felt closer as a family.

Luckily the weather cooperated and it was nice a cool so I could have a barrier between the dog hair. But waking up to doggy kisses every 30 minutes was not my idea of ideal sleep. So we wore the dogs out playing in the lake and chasing each other along with taking a walk through some "hunting" land. Finally the second night I (and the baby were) was able to sleep more peacefully.

So we're finding out that this baby is allowing us to get new toys including a new(er) truck for a baby seat, a "familymobile" and now a biggger tent, and hopefully a completed basement. Thank you God for giving us 9 months to prepare!

21 week Dr. Visit

I saw the Dr. today. The heartbeat and a kick were quickly evident on the Doppler. All appears normal after checking the ultrasound results! Also, I'm measuring to be the right size - hence the growth lately.

My Mayo Clinic Pregnancy books says the baby is making blood cells from the bone marrow, liver and spleen. Next week the baby should measure 7 and a half inches crown to rump (closer to 10 head to toe) and will weigh nearly a pound!

Thanks for checking the blog! Here are some of the ultrasound pics. One of the crossed legs and the other you can see the leg and arm with hand by the face.

ultrasound today!

All went well at the ultrasound today. The tech said our due date is Jan. 4th instead of the 7th. This is good news to Keir who really wants a tax-break baby. However, from family experience, the baby will wait until it's about a week past the due date to make an appearance.

It was a so great to hear that the baby is healthy and there shouldn't be any surprises. We saw the 4 chambers of the heart, two kidneys, all the limbs, and other important parts... except for the important part we didn't want to see. We could even see four fingers and a thumb on each hand! The baby is a mover and a shaker as the tech had a hard time keeping up with him/her. I did just come from practice, so it wasn't a Red Bull that was the cause of it (like the nurse suggested). It's no wonder I feel the baby so much.

We have plenty of pictures to share, but we'll pick the best ones and scan them in to post them when we can.

19 weeks

Yes, 19 weeks already. I'm looking forward to being half way this week. On Tuesday we have our ultrasound @ 3:30. However I feel as though I've been able to get to know the baby lately as I can feel it moving around in there. Keir has been able to feel the little one from the outside too! So far, I can tell he/she likes to eat and relax.... it must take after Keir. :-)

So what's happening this week?
How the baby's growing: The baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces, and he/she measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the length of a small zucchini. His/her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of his body now. His/ber kidneys continue to make urine, and the hair on his scalp is sprouting. This is a crucial time for sensory development: The baby's brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. If the baby is a girl, she has an astonishing six million eggs in her ovaries. They'll dwindle to fewer than two million by the time she's born.

Volleyball starts on Monday. We will have 2-a-day practices for the first two weeks. The first three days we have try-outs. As of now there are 73 girls signed up and only 54 can make a team.

I found out this week that I'll be teaching in St. Clair as a long term sub. The position goes until Nov. and is teaching health and P.E. to some elementary classes, 7th, and 10th grade. A perfect fit!

Enjoy the remainder of the summer!

not a bad idea

Hey All,

Some of you have started your blogs and I thought I'd give it a try. I'll keep you posted on how the baby and I are growing, maybe even Keir and the dogs... hopefully they aren't growing too much :-)

Feel free to post comments and ask Q's!
